“Singing for me is a sacred,” said Elis Regina. A Brazilian singer born as Elis Regina de Carvalho, who was born in Port Alegre, Brazil on 17th March, 78 years ago. Many considered Elis Regina as one of Brazilian finest female singers, because of the perfectly pitched and gorgeous voice she has.

Elis began her singing career at the age of 11 on a children’s radio show, Rádio Farroupilha. Her first album was “Viva a Brotolândia”, which was recorded when she was 16. Throughout her career as a singer, Pimentinha (Elis nickname given by Vinícius de Moraes) has released 19 studio albums and 6 live albums. Pimentinha means little pepper in Brazil, which reflects in Elis Regina explosive, confronting personality.

One of her best milestones was when she released an intimate duo album with the great Antonio Carlos Jobim, titled “Elis and Tom”. She passed away in 1982, at the age of 36, leaving dozens of recorded top-selling albums as her legacy.
